"False-identification is confusing the nature of the seer or Self with the nature of the instrument of perception. In other words, false identification happens when we mistake the mind, body, or senses for the true Self."

—Yoga Sutra II.6

Asmita; egoism. where the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of mind/body are mistaken for the true self.

We all have relationship with ego in this life, it’s necessary in being human, and necessary for growth in the ways in which we survive or adapt.

But when surviving and adapting are no longer necessary, can we let go?

I see in myself how easy it is to cling to different identities or ideas in which i associate to myself (yoga teacher, solver of problems, daughter, friend…), and none of these are who I am. All are roles, and wonderful ones, but they often miss the individual within. The one whose observing, learning, unlearning, being curious, and having faults in the process.

“Has your identity become so strong that it has made you forget who you are?” - @yogaprasad_institute

How can I become so comfortable in my label that i no longer provide myself space to grow out of it, or expand in any way?

We are ever changing, while the inner spirit (in my opinion) stays the same. And that is the beauty of this life. If we were to have it all figured out immediately, i’m sure we wouldn’t be here as humans. Permit yourself the space to ask questions. Do things out of context or out of “label” if necessary to truly see where you stand in this label in the first place.

Release the attachment to who you have built yourself up to be, and witness who you are in your actions.

Its a gift to do so, to put the mirror up to ourselves and truly see the one looking back at us and work with what we know we need to work through. & this work isn’t faced in the veils of our “identities”, its faced in just seeing us as we are.
